Championship Tournament Match #1
Devlin Reeves vs Jay Andrews
EPW newcomer Jay Andrews took on Devlin Reeves in the first Championship Tournament match of the evening. Before the match began, Reeves grabbed the mic and told the crowd that if he were to lose this match against Jay Andrews tonight, he would shave his head. Reeves, who has been going from strength to strength in the last year is getting very confident in his ability to win matches, but wasn’t afraid to use a cheap tactics again when before the bell rang he blindsided Jay and hitting him with the microphone. Reeves who came off a questionable win last show with a low blow, continued in the same manner against Jay.
Hard forearms and chops were traded from both men and Jay managed to get the upper hand on Devlin and send him to the outside. Jay capitalised on this, but didn’t fully connect with a suicide dive onto Devlin, allowing Devlin to deliver a vicious Powerbomb onto the floor. Devlin slowed things down, but it was to the advantage of Jay when Devlin hooked him up for a Superplex, Jay slid out from under Devlin and pushed him off the top making him fall into a Tree of Woe. Jay then delivered a huge double stomp to the chest of Devlin to the delight of the crowd. Jay then hit a top rope elbow but Devlin kicked out just before the three.
Both men once again traded forearms and chops before Jay surprised Devlin with a quick roll up, and Devlin kicked him off, Jay tumbled into the referee, while Devlin took advantage of this situation and low blowed Jay, unbeknownst to the ref, and hit the Package Piledriver.
Winner: Devlin Reeves in 12:53, via pinfall with the Package Piledriver
Damian Slater Interview
Commissioner Tom Chocolate made his way to the ring to announce the special guest for the evening, which was Mark Aiston from Network 10 and MMM Radio, who came out to mixed reactions. Mark Aiston is making a special appearance in Explosive Pro Wrestling to conduct an interview with Damian Slater who will be travelling to the USA to wrestle for the National Wrestling Alliance. Before the interview got underway, Commissioner Tom Chocolate invites Mark Aiston to be special guest time keeper for the main event match between Damian Slater and Hartley Jackson. Aiston happily accepts the job and said he is looking forward to being ringside for the fight. In the interview Slater talks about his struggles and achievements in wrestling so far and how he looks forward to going to America to represent Australia. He talks about the politics backstage and how guys like Hartley Jackson and Bruce Mills have always made it hard on everyone, trying to keep the younger guys down and taking advantage of everyone with their influences. During the interview Hartley Jackson made his presence known and made his way to the ring. Hartley states to Aiston and Slater that he is the real star and should be the one everyone is paying attention to. Hartley then goes on to ask Aiston how he will manage being time keeper in the Main Event with a broken back. But before anyone could respond, Hartley pushes Commissioner Tom Chocolate into Slater and delivers a rib crunching back breaker to Aiston. Hartley quickly flees the ring, while everyone attends to Aiston…an irate Slater requests the main event to be a no DQ match in which Hartley gladly accepts and Commissioner Tom Chocolate confirms.

Impromptu Match
Bruce ‘Havok’ Mills vs Shane Haste
Bruce who didn’t break a sweat from his match with Graham got on the mic to proclaim his greatness and his disgust toward Slater for his verbal bashing that he and long time friend and rival, Hartley, received in the interview. He said how he would take on anyone at anytime to prove he wasn’t an old hat, but was at that point interrupted by Shane Haste which led to an impromptu match seeing as Davis Storm would not be in Adelaide to face Haste. Havok took the challenge in Storms place.
Before the match begins Bruce and Haste charge each other. Bruce with his power takes the upper hand on Haste delivering massive clubs to the back. Havok controls Haste and sets him up for a clothesline, Haste ducks it and comes back with a leg lariat with lots of air time, sending Havok crashing to the mat and rolling to the outside.
As Havok bides his time, Haste goes up top to attack Havok, but before he can Anella hops up on the apron to get in his way. Sneakily Havok enters the ring unknown to Haste and takes him from behind. Havok pummels Shane and slows down the match to his advantage, keeping Shane off his feet. Havok tosses Shane to the outside, haste quickly tries to enter again, but Havok tosses him right out…Haste again quick to his feet races back in, but yet again Havok goes to toss him out….but this time Haste holds onto the ropes swings back into the ring and elbows Havok down before running off the ropes and delivering another hang-time elbow…Shane gets a little cocky and does push ups on Havok which angers him and he kicks out at one…Haste goes up top, but Havok is quick and boots him to the outside where Anella lays in a few shots while Havok distracts the referee.
Anella throws haste back into the ring and Havok hits a sit out slam for the two count. Havok sets him up top, but Shane reverses it and catches Havok in a tree of woe…Shane hits a big coast to coast drop kick of 18 feet sending the crowd crazy….he capitalises on this and hits Havok with a running Senton into the corner.
Haste now has the advantage and goes up top, but Havok pushes the referee into the ropes causing Haste to fall off…Anella hops up on the apron as Havok grabs Haste in a full nelson. Anella goes to blow the mist in Shane’s face but he ducks and the mist manages to spray Havok in his face…Haste quickly rolls up Havok for the three.
Winner: Shane Haste at 7:50, via pinfall via roll-up.
Jayson Cooper vs Spike Steele
The last time these two men wrestled was in 2004 and both left the match with severe concussions. Although Cooper lost the match via pinfall, it was Spike who seemed to be the most damaged. Lots of anticipation was surrounding this match, which was over two years in the making. Both men started our strong with technical wrestling, but Cooper managed to get the upper hand on Spike twice, forcing him to the ropes to have the hold broken. Spike was using his experience testing Cooper, because on the third rope break, Spike unleashed with a huge chop sending Cooper to the mat. Spike picked him up and lined him up again knocking the wind out of Cooper and leaving huge marks on his chest. Spike took advantage of this situation and picked up Cooper in a Fireman’s Carry, Cooper managed to get free, but not before Spike hit a clothesline, sending him down hard.
Spike took control of the match hitting some great moves on Cooper including a running head scissor DDT, but not keeping him down for the count. Just as Coops began to make a comeback with a reversal into a pin, Spike hit back with a T-bone Suplex into the corner, sending Cooper crashing onto his head. Spike took his time in picking up Cooper and Cooper managed to get the reversal into a Gut Buster followed by the Whistlers Mother (sidewalk slam Powerbomb).
Coops was quick on the offence and delivered a series of Suplex’s only for a two count before Spike fought back hitting a big German Suplex. Spike went to work on Cooper with a few submissions ending up in the STF…Coper fought hard not to submit and managed to make it to the ropes. From there the action spilled to the outside and coops hit a top rope Suicide Plancha onto spike. They fought on the outside and Coops rammed spikes head into the steps. Coops then set up the steps and leg dropped spike over the steps in devastating fashion. Cooper takes Spike back into the ring and hits a split legged Moonsault. He then set up Spike for his Sensation Bomb off the top, but Spike cuts him off and delivers a big Superplex. Spike them sets him up again and delivers another Superplex…goes for the cover, Coops manages to somehow kick out…spike quickly ties him up yet again in the STF, this time Cooper was too far from the ropes and Cooper gave up to the submission.
Winner: Spike Steele in 14:52, via tap-out with the STF.
‘Jag’ Hartley Jackson vs Damian Slater
Slater is clearly the fan favourite in this match as both men try to drum up support from the crowd. A chorus off boo’s follow Hartley as he poses on the corner and the roof nearly lifts off when Slater goes up. Hartley who is disgusted leaves the ring refusing to wrestle or go near Slater. Hartley gets back in the ring again, just about to lock up with Slater, but once again it bails to the outside to everyone’s dissatisfaction. Hartley is wasting a lot of time trying to psyche out Slater and throw him off his game. Slater wanted to come out firing in the main event, but Hartley has slowed it to his pace frustrating Slater. Back in the ring again, lock up, Hartley pushed Slater to the corner, ref doesn’t need to count as its no DQ, but Hartley releases and chops Slater really hard in the chest showing his arrogance. Lock up again, this time Slater switches it around, chop in the corner, an irate Hartley rushes towards Slater only to be arm dragged, chopped down then clotheslined out of the ring.
Hartley grabs a trash can from the crowd threatening to use it on Slater but leaves it on the outside wasting more time to the frustration of Slater and the crowd. Once again in the ring, both men circling, Hartley stops and gets the referee to check the floor for a loose bolt, once again slowing down the match. He took Slater by surprise, clotheslined him down and hit a few forearms before applying a drop toe hold slowing the match down yet again.
A few reversals by both men and Slater manages to get on top of Hartley delivering a flurry forearms and unloading his frustration. Slater whips him off the ropes and dropkicks him to the outside. Slater goes for a suicide dive, but Hartley picks up the bin that he left on the outside previously and smashes it into Slaters head causing him to bust open. Hartley takes advantage of the situation and hits Slater repeatedly with the trash can.
Hartley throws Slater to the outside and showing his disrespect, he lays down in the middle of the ring pretending to have a nap. As Hartley goes outside to continue the beating on Slater, Slater returns the favour and hits Hartley in the face with the bin. Slater angry that he is bleeding, unleashed on Hartley with a whip into the guard rails followed by a Russian leg sweep into the rails.
Both men fight back and forth through the crowd and Slater smashes a cup full of beer into Hartley’s face nearly breaking his nose…both men trade chops before heading back into the ring. Slater gets the upper hand lining up Hartley for a Superkick. Hartley kicks out at two and as Slater is picking him up, Hartley ducks under and delivers his Jagged Edge DVD. Slater kicks out just in time. Clearly frustrated, Hartley picks up Slater and chops him into the corner with five big chops, Slater comes firing back forearming Hartley into the middle of the ring, Slater runs to the ropes for an offensive charge, but Havok out of nowhere hits him in the back with a chair, Slater stumbles forwards and Hartley hooks him up in the small package for the three.
Winner: Hartley Jackson in 18:43, via pinfall with Small Package.
Impromptu Tag Team Match
Damian Slater & Shane Haste vs ‘Jag’ Hartley Jackson & Bruce ‘Havok’ Mills
After the match, Jag and Havok shake hands. Jag grabs the mic about to gloat to Slater on the win, but Slater shoves him. Havok hops into the ring and gets in Slaters face, which brings out Haste from the back to even up the odds. All four men are pushing each other as Commissioner Tom Chocolate tries to break it up. He says this could be all settled next show and he would love to see a match between Shane Haste and Damian Slater versus Jag and Havok in a no DQ Tag match, but seeing as Damian Slater won’t be here for the next show, Chocolate asks the crowd if they want to see the match now. The crowd erupts in his favour, Chocolate calls for the bell, but Jag and Havok leave the ring, they weren’t going to be forced to fight again.
Next second Shane jumps out of the ring off Slaters back with a twisting tope onto the surprised Havok while Slater gets up hits a corkscrew crossbody onto Jag who was too busy watching what just happened to Havok.
For the second time that night a brawl spilled into the crowd with all of the guys fighting. Shane jumped up onto one of the basketball ring and jumped onto Havok’s shoulders giving him a hurricanrana to the floor.
Haste takes Jag back into the ring as Havok and Slater trade blows. Haste goes up to the top to try and frogsplash Jag, but Jag cuts him off and delivers a second rope DVD…Jag then goes to return the favour by going up top looking to hit his top rope elbow. Shane is up and cuts him off…both men are fighting on the top rope…Jag pushes Shane off, but Shane, as he jumps back, delivers a Moonsault kick into Jag’s face sending Jag off the top crashing to the mat.
Meanwhile Slater has tied up Havok in the tree of woe and dropkicks a bin to his face. As Slater and Haste set up Jag and Havok in the corner, Jag and Havok fight back delivering powerbombs to each of the guys. The ref got to close and was knocked out of the ring onto the floor.
Havok grabs the announcers table and places it in the ring looking to Powerbomb Haste, but he counters. Slater and Jag fight back and fourth as Havok manages to overpower Haste sending him through the table. Havok then attacks Slater and both men double team him and hit the Olivia Newton Bomb (Powerbomb/Superplex Combo).
They tie Slater up in the ropes and Havok goes to the outside to hold onto his legs. Slater is trapped. Jag picks up the steel chair that Havok used against Slater in the previous match and was about to cave his skull in but Mark Aiston comes running in pain from the back and grabs the chair off Jag, hitting him in the stomach and then wrapping it around his head to the crowds loud applause….Havok witnessing this jumps in the ring and kicks Aiston in the stomach. Havok lines him up for a Powerbomb, but Aiston ducks down and low blows Havok to the crowd’s applause.
Jag who has stumbled to feet grabs his tag title belt and charges at Aiston, but Aiston ducks out of the way and Jag drives the belt into Havok’s head instead.
Havok goes down. Haste who has recovered from the Powerbomb delivers a huge frogsplash to Havok while Slater superkick’s Jag out of his boots, both men go for the cover on Jag and Havok, Aiston slowly comes over and counts the three.
Winners: Damian Slater & Shane Haste in 9:46, via double pinfall with Superkick and Frogsplash.
Slater, Haste and Aiston celebrate in the ring…Jag and Havok are disgusted by the decision. Jag grabs the mic saying how Aiston is not an official referee and the decision shouldn’t count. Commissioner Tom Chocolate gets into the ring and explains that this match was the true main event of the night, and seeing Aiston had previously been appointed to be the special guest time keeper for the main event, and in the absence of the referee, he has the authority to officially call the match.
Jag and Havok who are clearly angered and not yet near fighting this to the end, vow revenge on the Commissioner, all EPW Management and EPW wrestlers for this travesty. Just as things were about to heat up a 6’ 4” 300lbs security guard made his presence known to Jag and Havok and made it clear it was time for them to leave. Jag and Havok who were irate left quickly muttering that they will all pay.
Slater thanks the fans for their great support as Mark Aiston, Shane Haste and Commissioner Tom Chocolate celebrate in the ring at the closing of the highly successful Explosive Pro Wrestling show. |
